Crown Valley Nursery and 301 Organics are teaming up to bring you locally grown, climate-friendly plants made with local resources!

What exactly are climate-friendly plants?  Plants that function to sequester or draw down carbon from the atmosphere whether they are cash crops or ornamentals in your landscaping.  They are planted in soil enriched with uniquely curated compost teaming with biology instead of chemical-based fertilizers. The microorganisms living and reproducing in the compost are like superheroes that bring dirt to life! They are responsible for transforming our food waste and plant scraps into plant food and auto-regulating nutrient uptake giving the plant what it wants and when.

Think of a healthy forest ecosystem – when a ripe fruit falls, the microscopic superheroes gobble it up, kickstarting the nutrient cycle. The bacteria, protozoa, fungi, bugs and insects create nature's fertilizer. No more second guessing, measuring, or overdosing on chemical fertilizer. When we toss food waste into a landfill, that’s a different story. The waste sits in plastic bags and emits methane, a major contributor to climate change. The EPA states landfills are the third-largest source of human-related methane emissions in the U.S.

But fear not! Crown Valley Nursery and 301 Organics are partnering to break this cycle. By turning food waste from homes, restaurants, and local businesses in our community into on-site compost, we're not just reducing methane emissions, we’re also cutting down on the pollution caused by hauling waste away. It’s a win-win-win that supports the community, local businesses, and the environment.

With 301 Organics’ unparalleled composting knowledge and Crown Valley Nursery’s growing expertise, we are bringing residents and landscapers a high-quality product and service by transitioning away from chemical inputs and transforming how plants are grown by using local raw materials such as yard and food waste. This is what it looks like to support a local circular economy, green jobs, and small businesses. You, too, can support our collaboration by becoming a subscriber today!

Curious to know more?  Stop by the nursery every first Saturday of the month from 10 am to 12 pm. We are hosting Composting Workshops where you can learn why diverting food waste is crucial, the secrets of recycling kitchen scraps, and alternatives to sending your leftovers off-site. It's not just a workshop; it's a path to a greener, cleaner future!
